Power Outlets from Two Wheel Innovations & Hondaline 9/24/2004
This page documents the installation of three different sets of power outlets.
The first set of pictures covers the dual BMW
style outlets mounted on a plate from Two Wheeled
Innovations.
The second group of photos shows how to mount an
always-on BMW outlet on the right side dash. This
is useful for plugging in your trickle charger. I use a custom wiring harness
from Two Wheeled
Innovations to connect this outlet to the Hondaline Quartet harness.
The last group of photos covers the installation of the Hondaline power outlet in the right hand pocket.
You must first install the
Hondaline Quartet wiring
harness before installing the two right fairing
power outlets.
A. Dual Outlet from Two Wheeled Innovations
Switched power outlets. This picture shows the
supplied wiring harness. I found it to be inadequate
for two heated vest and replaced it as shown below. The stock harness simply
chained the two outlets
via a common 18 gauge wire set. Not enough for two heated suits.
This is a proper harness. Two complete sets of 18
gauge wire, one for each outlet.
I picked up some two conductor, 18 gauge wire, in
white sheathing at West Marine for the
harness.
I split the wire sheathing and ran each hot lead to
it's own 10 amp fuse on my switch under seat buss. The two grounds
run directly to the battery as shown
here.
B. Always-on right side fairing BMW type outlet
Custom wiring supplied by Two Wheel Innovations. The 9 pin plug connects to
the Quartet harness supplying always on or
switch voltage. I chose
always on so I can use this outlet to charge the battery.
The BMW outlet fits on the right pocket, towards the outside of the bikes as
to miss the coil below.
Cut a hole for the outlet.
Install the outlet.
Just clears the coil!
Install the wires as shown, red in the upper left if you want always on
power.
These are the four plugs from the Hondaline quartet harness. You read what
the are used for at the bottom of this page.
Run the wires from the Quartet harness on the left side of the bike to this
location.
C. Hondaline power outlet
Hondaline Power Outlet. Cut the hole as described in the instructions.
Install the outlet in the hole.
Inside view of the outlet.
Install the fairing after connecting the wires to the plugs!
