2007 SPAMS Ride - Day 4 - 8/19/2007
We ran into Bernice Ende somewhere near Royal City in Eastern Washington. She's
been riding her horse since May of
2006. She started in East Glacier in Montana, and has been to Minnesota, Las
Vegas, Tucson, over the Pacific Trail to
Nasalle, WA. She's on her way back home to Trego, MT and should be there by
October. About 5000 miles on a horse!
You can visit her web site
here. Her outfitters site is
here.
Her dog 'Claire' with deer skin boots.
Her Horse named 'Honor'.
John's Day 4 ride report:
We got up and headed out at 8 and had rain for 1 1/2
hour until we got to Washtucna. There we met a lady in her 60's
who travels in the summer with her horse and dog. She carries a hidden pistol,
camping gear and last year went from Montana
to New Mexico on side roads. Quite a feat and an amazing lady who told us she
gets hospitality and kindness from folks all
over the west. She was offered a spot and hay for her horse by the gas station
owner and walked off with her horse and poncho.
We smelled the sagelands, the wheat and grass fields and onion fields which in
the rain were very vivid on a bike to smell.
I felt a little sorry for the Harley riders with the wet bandanas stuck to their
faces and fingerless gloves and no fairings!
We split up at I-90 at Vantage so Paul and I stopped in Cle Elum for lunch then
had rain again at the pass as we headed home
sweet home.
