John's Day 2 ride report:

We left early and rode up north from Sandpoint had some breakfast then towards the entrance to Glacier Park. The park
had a lot of damage in 2006 in the winter so some roads had damage, 1 lake went up 7 feet in 24 hours and there were many
avalanches. The park had haze over the mountains and you could smell the aroma of the southern fires. The rivers and granite
mountains are huge but the highlight is the Going to the Sun road. Its cut into the mountains and is windy and narrow. In 1932
it was quite a feat to build. We did see a ram sheep walk on the side of the road and then as we drove out many cows and again
horses on and in the road as we headed for E.

Glacier and to our cabins.  The radio warnings from Adam came in very handy.

The most vivid sight was the blood red sun setting and the burned ridge of forests at St Marys which up close is a very strange
scene. In some spots the highway had black soot where the fire jumped over the road. The cabins at Summit Station were up the
road from the great Glacier Park Lodge built by the Union Pacific railroad owner for tourists to the park. Our cabin was in a
grove but about 400 yards from the main east-west tracks with 35 trains going by per day. We had some drinks on the deck and
watched some trains but we were so tired that we took some of Allan's great sleeping pills and went right to sleep. Paul said he had to
sleep on the couch because my snoring I guess was loud or so he claims! Lots of elk and deer heads in the cabins and Allan and Adam
had a black bear stuffed and mounted in the cabin.
